Parent Involvement Committee (PIC)

Welcome Parents!

With parents engaged, students succeed! The DSBN believes that parents have a valuable voice in education. Our Parent Involvement Committee makes parental engagement a priority by providing ongoing support on a system-wide basis and promoting communication and dialogue between School Councils, the Board and members of the community.

What is a Parent Involvement Committee?

Parents can get involved in their child's education in many ways, including through school councils and Parent Involvement Committees (PIC).

The DSBN PIC is an important advisory body that operate as a direct link between parents and the board of education. Where school councils focus on the local school and community, Parent Involvement Committees (PICs) participate at the board level and focus on things that affect more than one school.

We’re All in This Together: Supporting Youth at Home and School When
Stress is Big

Have you ever wondered how to best support your child(ren) or teens when they experience stress reactions? If so, you're not alone. Join other caregivers at this special community event to explore the difference between healthy and overwhelming stress. Many youth and families are experiencing big stress whether it’s related to personal worries or anxiety, losses, a lack of access to needed resources, changing circumstances or pressures, meeting diverse needs within families, discrimination, bullying, or other harms and traumas that influences how safe we are or feel in our communities. While some stress is outside our control, our community can still do much to support one another and act for positive change! We can also help youth develop skills to navigate life’s ups and downs. In this interactive session with Ms. Jen—an educator, author, speaker, and consultant—you’ll learn some of what DSBN school leaders are learning to help you better understand and support needs within your family.

REGISTRATION WILL BE OPEN UNTIL APRIL 30TH. LIMITED SPACES ARE AVAILABLE. PLEASE REGISTER USING THIS LINK

CHAIRING WITH CONFIDENCE - School Council Chair Event, October 29, 2025

The Parent Involvement Committee was thrilled to welcome over 120 School Council Chairs to an amazing evening of cultivating relationships, collaboration and learning. Thank you to all that joined this fantastic night.

Why Engage Parents?

When parents and schools work together, there are many positive results. These include improved student achievement, reduced absenteeism, better behaviour and increased confidence among parents about their children's education. DSBN schools benefit from the important work parents do to support their children's learning. We also benefit from hearing parent opinions and perspectives.
