Rowing

The Governor Simcoe Rowing Program entered the 2010 season much the same as previous years. The program has consistently been among the top 5 rowing programs in the country over the past decade. This season, the tradition of winning continues as all categories have produced crews of good quality.

Looking forward to the Canadian High School Championships, it appears that the rowing program at Simcoe should have great opportunities to reach the podium in a number of races during "Schoolboy Sunday". In particular, Sydney Boyes will battle for the coveted Senior Women's Single Championship and will attempt to repeat her recent Gold medal performance at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta in Philadelphia, PA.

The Women's program will compete in a number of different events including the Sr. Women's Pair, Sr. Women's 63kg Pair, Senior Double, Junior Heavy Coxed 4, Junior Double, Junior 59kg Coxed 4 and the Junior Women's 63kg four. All crews have had great success thus far and are sure to assert themselves well at Sunday's Finals.

On the Senior Men's side, the 72kg eight, 72 kg Coxed 4, Pair, 66kg Coxed 4 and the 72kg Pair will attempt to continue their great history of reaching the podium. Last season, all five crews made it through to Sunday Finals, a very difficult feat. The 72kg Coxed Four earned a Silver Medal last season. The Seniors will be looking to continue their success this weekend and put up points for the Simcoe Program.

The Junior Men look to bounce back in 2010 and have done an excellent job thus far. Crews have continued to move faster throughout the season under the tutoluge of Andrew Carr, Mitch Haines and Russ Friesen, all former Simcoe oarsmen. The Junior Heavy Eight won the last pre-Schoolboy event by taking the Ridley Sprints Regatta.

This group of young men and women are great ambassadors for Governor Simcoe and should be proud of their accomplishments.
