DSBN Showcases the Power of Pink Wednesday

It’s normally a softer hue, but tomorrow, pink will make a strong statement.

Wednesday, February 22, is pink shirt day at the District School Board of Niagara. To show their support in the effort to end bullying, DSBN students and staff will don their best and brightest pink items to wear to school and work.

“Although it’s appropriate to wear a pink shirt any day, Wednesday’s event is an important way for students and staff to acknowledge the powerful role they have to play in putting an end to bullying,” says Stacy Turner, DSBN Consultant for Cultural and Linguistic Diversity. 

Educating students about bullying, how to recognize it, and how to stop it, is an important emphasis at DSBN schools. Numerous anti-bullying initiatives, such as pink shirt day, take place throughout the year. 

“The District School Board of Niagara does not tolerate bullying, whether it happens in class, off school property, or online. At the DSBN, all students and staff believe that everyone has the right to be respected, and the responsibility to respect others,” says JoAnna Roberto, Superintendent of Curriculum and Student Achievement. 

Schools also promote positive, healthy behaviours through character education. Character education helps students to become positive, productive members of society by modeling attitudes and behaviours that support the well-being of others.
