What is mental health?

Mental Health is something that everyone has. Mental health affects how we think, feel and act every day. Good mental health helps us to enjoy life, deal with stress, and handle challenges. It also helps us build positive relationships with others. Learning about mental health and taking care of it can help us live healthier lives.

Building Resilience and Self Care

Self-care is an important part of staying well, especially during hard or stressful times. Taking care of yourself can give you the energy, tools, and support you need to handle challenges.

Tips:

  • Keep a healthy snack nearby to refuel and avoid feeling “hangry”
  • Drink water or milk before bed instead of caffeine to help you sleep
  • A 30-minute walk can boost your health. If you’re inside, try yoga, a short workout, or a step challenge
  • Read a book, watch a show, learn a skill, or try something new
  • Helping others can boost your mood. Text or call someone you care about to brighten both your days
  • There are lots of different apps and sites out there for breathing exercises or check out: ‘How to calm down when you’re stressed
  • Ask yourself: Is this helpful and true? If not, try to find a kinder, more accurate thought
  • Gratitude can support well-being. Each night, write down three good things from your day, big or small
  • Ask a partner to help keep you on track as you build your new habit
