Math Homework Help Just a Few Clicks Away for DSBN Students

Even at the best of times, math homework can be a challenge. Now, students stuck on a particularly difficult question can access quick and reliable help online. By logging on to Homework Help students can get connected to certified Ontario teachers for help solving even the toughest equation. Homework Help is an initiative funded through the Ontario Ministry of Education.

Students from grades 7 through 10 can access the site for free, real-time math tutoring from Sunday to Thursday, 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. “This is a wonderful resource to support students after the school day is finished. By working with a tutor online, students receive instant assistance that reinforces the lessons taught in class,” says Toby Marr, DSBN eLearning Contact.

Having this resource available is also of great assistance to parents who are often called upon to help their children with homework. “When my daughter would bring home math questions that I wasn’t entirely comfortable answering, it was a good feeling to know that we could go online and rely on the tutor’s expertise,” says Lisa McIntyre, Literacy Resource Teacher, Dewitt Carter Public School.

“Rather than just giving out the answers to the questions, the tutors will help students work through each step to solve the problem helping to create a deeper understanding of concepts,” says math teacher Andrea Varga.

In addition to the online tutoring, videos of best tutorials, listen and learn lessons, interactive tutorials and commonly asked questions are available anytime on the website. Other online math resources include fun, interactive math games and a virtual locker, where students can save their work. “These resources are all available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ensuring that students always have access to help, even if it is outside the tutor’s scheduled hours,” adds Marr.
