Churchill Student Makes History at Begbie Competition

Sir Winston Churchill student Corwan Groux has a date with the Governor General. In December, His Excellency will present Groux with a special medal for being the top French contestant at the annual Begbie History Contest. With an overall mark of 98% Groux was the highest scoring French student in the country.  

The Begbie History Contest is a national program that allows senior level high school students to test their knowledge against students across Canada. The contest is designed to increase the profile and popularity of Canadian history while challenging students to think critically about historical and contemporary problems. The contest is written at a student’s home school and includes multiple choice, short answer and essay questions. Approximately 1,400 students took part in the contest.  

Corwan will graduate from Sir Winston Churchill later this month and is planning to study history at Brock University beginning in September. Furthering his connection to Canadian history, Corwan will spend the summer working as a re-enactor and interpreter at Fort George in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
