Academy Principal Named One of Canada’s Best 

The District School Board of Niagara is pleased to announce that Tom Reynolds has been named one of Canada’s Outstanding Principals for 2013. The award recognizes the extraordinary contributions of dynamic education leaders in publicly funded schools.

Reynolds currently serves students as Principal of the DSBN Academy, located in Welland. He was also instrumental in the fledgling program’s development. The DSBN Academy is one of the most unique educational programs in Ontario. Its purpose is to support students in their journey to become the first in their families to graduate from college or university.  

“Tom’s steady leadership and unwavering belief in the program and its students has allowed the Academy to develop into a thriving place of learning where students truly believe they can achieve anything. He is a very deserving winner of this prestigious award,” says Warren Hoshizaki, DSBN Director of Education. 

As the first program of its kind in Ontario, there has been a great deal of public and media interest in the Academy. “In addition to his role as the school’s instructional leader, Tom has always represented the Academy with a great deal of sensitivity and optimism, which has helped foster a shared sense of school pride amongst the students and staff,” says Wes Hahn, Superintendent of Schools.  

As one of Canada’s Outstanding Principals, Reynolds will attend a five-day Executive Leadership Training Program at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management. There, he will have the opportunity to dialogue and reflect on leadership issues with other renowned leaders from the educational, social, cultural and business sectors.
