DSBN Schools Impress at Regional
Drama Festival
Ridgeway-Crystal
Beach High School (RCBHS) will be taking its show on the road, to the Provincial
Sears Drama Festival in Hamilton beginning May 6. The cast and crew from RCBHS
earned the Outstanding Production award for their production of Sophocles’ “Antigone”
at the recently held Regional Sears Drama Festival.
“Only 12
schools showcase at Provincials out of over 400 entrants, so this is quite an
accomplishment,” said Jerome Black, DSBN Arts Consultant. In addition to its
Outstanding Production Award, RCBHS earned an Award of Excellence for ensemble
work.
RCBHS was not
the only DSBN school honoured at the Regionals. Stamford Collegiate also took
home Awards of Excellence for Lights, Sound and Video Design, Original Music
and Performance for their production of “Invisible Wounds” penned by Stamford drama students, based on work by Edward
Brown. St. Catharines Collegiate earned an Award of Merit for Performance in “We
All Fall Down,” written by the school’s drama teacher Brenna McAliister.
“Congratulations to RCBHS, Stamford and St.
Catharines Collegiate. They should all be very proud of their efforts and
accomplishments,” added Black.
The Provincial
Showcase will be held at Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary School from May 6-9. This
event is noncompetitive; however, a number of awards will be given at the
discretion of the adjudicator. There are prizes for writing and technical
skill, as well as scholarships and bursaries awarded to help recipients pursue
careers in performing arts.
