Skills Take Centre Stage in March
A tradition of success continues as the 18th
annual DSBN Technological Skills Challenges get underway! Beginning March 1, more than 500 students will
compete in 30 contests taking place over the course of just one week. Students
participating in the Skills Challenges gain valuable “Skills for Life” that
help them become better prepared for a future in the skilled trades and technologies.
Preparation and training for the Challenges has been ongoing and the students
are ready to put their skills to the test.
Technology
Challenge Week begins with more than 150 students participating in the
Elementary Techknowledge preliminaries taking place at the seven Design,
Science, and Technology Centres throughout the DSBN. The Techknowledge finals
will be held at the DSBN Education Centre Atrium on Friday March 4.
From March 2 -
3, the Secondary DSBN Technological Skills Challenges will be held in
partnership with Niagara College at the Welland, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Maid
of the Mist campuses. Over 350 secondary students representing 19 DSBN high schools
will come together to demonstrate their skills and abilities in over 25
different challenges.
The top three
finalists from each DSBN Technological Skills Challenge will be recognized at the
DSBN Skills Celebration to be held on April 13 at Club Italia in Niagara Falls.
Gold medal Champions will represent the DSBN at the Skills Ontario Provincial
Finals held at RIM Park in Kitchener on May 2-4. Gold medalists at the
Provincial level will advance to the Skills National Finals held in Moncton New
Brunswick, June 5-8.
