DSBN Parent Involvement Committee to Host Three-Night Speaker Series Focused on Child and Teen Stress

Apr 20, 2026

The District School Board of Niagara’s (DSBN) Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) is pleased to host “We Are All in This Together,” a three-night Speaker Series running May 5-7, featuring Ms. Jen Alexander, a nationally recognized leader in the movement to build trauma-sensitive schools. The interactive sessions are designed to help parents and caregivers support children and teens through the pressures of everyday life.

Parents can register for one of two in-person events – Tuesday, May 5 at Eden High School in St. Catharines or Wednesday, May 6 at Quaker Road Public School in Welland – or join the session virtually on Thursday, May 7 at 6 p.m. Both in-person events begin at 5 p.m. and include a complimentary dinner and free childcare.

Across all three sessions, parents and caregivers will explore:

  • How stress can show up differently for children and teens at home and at school
  • The difference between healthy stress and overwhelming stress
  • Practical ways families can support children and teens through daily pressures
  • How children and teens can build skills to navigate life’s ups and downs

“It is important to us to offer sessions that speak directly to the real concerns families in our communities are raising. Having Ms. Jen lead this conversation – informed by more than 20 years of experience – is a meaningful opportunity for parents and caregivers, as well as the students we serve," said Michael Burns, Superintendent of Student Achievement and Well-Being and PIC Liaison.

“Strengthening the link between home and school is essential,” added Melissa Lofquist, Parent Involvement Committee Co-Chair. “This Speaker Series gives families the chance to explore issues that are affecting our children and, more importantly, to leave with practical tips and tools they can use.”
