The District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) will be holding an election for Vice-Chair at a Special Meeting of the Board held on May 27, 2025.
If required, DSBN will also be holding an election to fill the vacancy of School Board Trustee at a Special Meeting of the Board held on June 23, 2025.
For elections held at Board meetings, the DSBN By-Laws and Rules of Order provide for two scrutineers appointed by the Board Secretary (DSBN senior staff) and permit the appointment of a third scrutineer (a disinterested external community member) by Board resolution. This is a volunteer role.
DUTIES OF EXTERNAL COMMUNITY MEMBER SCRUTINEER
Along with the two scrutineers appointed by the Board Secretary, the community member scrutineer will:
Be present with the other two scrutineers when ballots are opened
Observe their recording of the votes
Confirm their tally of the final count for each candidate
Confirm their conclusion of the successful candidate
May 27, 2025 meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. The election of Vice-Chair will be held at the start of the meeting. Time required is anticipated as approximately 15- 30 minutes but may vary.
June 23, 2025 meeting, if required, begins at a time to be determined and will be dependent on the number of eligible candidates but is tentatively scheduled for 5:00 p.m. This is a special meeting held for the purpose of election to fill the vacancy of School Board Trustee. The time required will depend on the number of applicants but is expected to take longer than 1 hour.
TERM OF SERVICE
Applicants can apply to serve for the May 27, 2025 meeting, or June 23, 2025 meeting (if required), or both.
Scrutineer must arrive 15 minutes in advance of the start of the meeting and must remain at the Board meeting through the conclusion of that evening’s election.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS
The application form must be submitted by 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Tuesday, May 20, 2025
Late applications will not be considered.
