A Commitment to Belonging and Thriving
At the DSBN, we are committed to creating school communities where every student feels they belong, is supported to thrive, and is celebrated for who they are. We know that equity is more than just a goal—it’s an active and ongoing commitment to ensure every student has what they need to succeed, no matter their background, identity, or lived experience.
Our Equity Action Plan guides the important work we’re doing across classrooms, schools, and the entire DSBN system. This includes:
- Creating inclusive spaces where students feel safe, seen, and heard.
- Honouring student voice and partnering with students to shape learning environments that reflect and respect their identities.
- Working closely with families and communities to build strong, respectful relationships that support student well-being and achievement.
- Removing barriers and addressing bias in order to make schools more inclusive, safe and welcoming for all.
- Designing learning that reflects the cultural strengths and diverse experiences of students, recognizing that every learner brings something valuable to the classroom.
This work is grounded in the Ontario Human Rights Code, our Equity and Inclusive Education and Human Rights Policy, and our shared belief that every student has the right to learn in a space that upholds dignity, respect, and inclusion.
Equity is everyone’s responsibility and through collaboration, ongoing learning, and deep listening, we are creating schools where students and families are not just welcomed—they are embraced and empowered.
