Tourette Syndrome Foundation Lauds DSBN Principal 

A commitment to equity for all students has earned a DSBN principal national accolades. In September, Pam Voth was named recipient of the 2013 Educator Award from the Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada (TSFC). A long-time educator with the DSBN, Voth currently serves students as principal of Prince of Wales Public School in St. Catharines.

On its website the TSFC said that award recipients “make good things happen for people affected by Tourette syndrome across the country, and we're grateful for their energy and dedication.”

Voth was nominated for the award by the parent of a child at Prince of Wales Public School. Her son had been diagnosed with Tourette syndrome and the family had been having difficulty identifying the appropriate supports for this young boy. However, that all changed when Pam Voth came into their lives.

“From the beginning we found her to be a strong advocate for all disabled children and my son’s life in particular took a 180 degree turn,” wrote the mother in her passionate letter.

“Mrs. Voth, I thank you. Your students thank you. You are the most caring, warm, generous and truly compassionate person. I am convinced we would not be where we are right now if not for you.  You have touched and blessed our lives in ways that we will never forget.”

Pam Voth began teaching at the DSBN in 1986. Since that time, she has served as a Special Education Resource Teacher, a Vice-Principal and Principal. Voth said her passion is to ensure that all students reach their full potential.

“Students are the most important people entering our buildings. They are the purpose of our work,” said Voth.
