Westlane Opens New Greenhouse

On Tuesday, December 13, at 11:00 a.m., Westlane Secondary hosted the opening of a state-of-the-art 2,000 square foot experimental greenhouse. The facility is home to the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) Horticulture program, and the SHSM Regional Discovering Innovative Green Industry Techniques (DIG IT!) Horticulture program. SHSM programs provide valuable real world experiences for students and allow them to focus on a career path that matches their skills and interests.

The new Greenhouse was designed to provide students with the opportunity to learn, innovate, create, and experiment in areas of vermiculture, aquaponics, hydroponics, tropical gardens, and more. The Greenhouse utilizes several industry standard processes and equipment that will prepare students for future careers in the Horticulture industry.

At Wednesday’s opening, several community partners who have supported the program were also in attendance.

Westlane is located at 5960 Pitton Road in Niagara Falls.
