Teaching is an amazing profession. As teachers, you are directly involved in shaping the lives of the young people in our system. The lessons you teach, the skills they learn, and the values you impart will stay with them forever.
The theme of this year’s World Teachers’ Day is “Young Teachers: The future of the Profession.” No matter what stage you are at in your career, I’m sure you can recall the enthusiasm and joy you felt when you first stepped into a classroom and began working with students. Today’s teacher candidates are coming to us highly skilled and educated. Their thoughts, ideas, and strategies help the DSBN find creative new ways to support students and see that they get the best start in life.
In addition to celebrating our newest teachers, I also want to recognize the work and expertise of experienced teachers. The mentorship, support, and leadership you provide incoming teachers helps build their confidence and prepare them for long careers of supporting Niagara’s children. We have experienced great successes over the past decade and much of that is thanks to your hard work, both with students and providing guidance to teachers beginning their careers.
Thank you all for your commitment to education and to children.
Happy World Teachers’ Day,
Warren Hoshizaki
Director of Education
