What is an Tile Setter?

A Terrazzo, Tile and Marble Setter covers interior and exterior walls, floors with terrazzo, tile and/or marble by preparing, measuring and marking the surface to be covered, mixing and applying mortar, mastic, cement, or other adhesives, using hand tools, laying mosaic tiles and removing and replacing cracked or damaged tiles. Tile Setters also use their creativity to design artistic patterns in their installations.

What will I be learning?

In this project, you will be learning all about tile setting. You will create your own tile setting or mosaic tile design in a wooden frame using a tile cutting tool to create your pattern.

Follow the instructions in the kit to learn how to set tiles. Add your imagination and personality to your designs and see what you can come up with. Snap a picture of your completed project and of the activity sheet to be entered to win exciting prizes. When you’re done, the tools and materials are yours to keep.

Watch the videos to learn about the Tile Setter trade. Spend some time looking at the OYAP resources we’ve included for you.

Carefully look over the instructions that come with the kit. They will teach you how to create your project with the provided materials. Conduct some internet research to look at tile patterns or design a mosaic of your own.

Take the opportunity to extend your experience by adding features to your design, or if you have supplies left, try to make something entirely new. The possibilities are endless.
