Dear Educators and Support Staff,
The District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) believes that diversity is a source of strength and innovation, and our schools embrace and appreciate the values, identities, and lived experiences of all students and staff. DSBN is committed to creating a culture of transformative and impactful change through an inclusive design that uses an asset-based lens and is anchored in anti-oppression, anti-racism, and human rights.
In support of this commitment to creating an equitable, inclusive, accessible, and supportive learning and working environment, the DSBN established the DSBN Equity and Inclusion Community Advisory Committee (EICAC) to engage the participation of staff.
The DSBN EICAC will meet quarterly. As a Committee Member, you will be providing advice and feedback using human rights, antiracist, and anti-oppressive lenses to ensure that decisions, policies, and practices do not create barriers for Black, Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis), Racialized, 2SLGBTQ+, and other groups marginalized by societal structures.
During the 2023-2025 term, EICAC members were involved in providing input and feedback on the Three-Year DSBN Equity Action Plan, Mental Health and Well-Being Strategy, the DSBN 2023-2028 Strategic Plan, and Family Engagement Infographic.
The composition of Committee Members includes representation from community organizations, parents, students, and DSBN staff. Additional membership will include one Trustee, a senior staff representative, and other DSBN staff as required.
The DSBN EICAC is currently seeking up to three (3) educators and support staff members who have a strong commitment to equity and inclusion and who bring lived and/or professional experience in addressing issues of systemic oppression and social justice in education.
The representative should:
- have an interest in, experience with (preferably lived experience), and an understanding of equity, racism, and systemic oppression in schools and the broader community;
- have knowledge of diverse experiences of groups marginalized by societal structures;
- be able to attend meetings quarterly;
- have a commitment to fostering equitable and inclusive learning environments within DSBN schools and workplaces.
This position is a two-year term for the 2025-2027 school years and ends on June 30, 2027. If you are interested in participating, please complete and submit this online application form.
The application deadline is April 30, 2025.
