What does the DSBN
International Languages
Elementary Program offer?

The DSBN International Languages Elementary Program helps students learn a language other than English or French. The program is available to all students in ELKP to Grade 8. This program is funded through the Ministry of Education, participation is free to eligible students.

Goals

  • Develop and maintain the ability to listen, speak, read, and write in a new language.
  • Learn about the culture and heritage associated with the language.

Benefits

  • Research shows that students who study additional languages improve their communication skills in all languages.
  • Studying one's heritage language promotes educational success.

Program Details

  • Classes are offered in the evenings and Saturdays during the school year and mornings during July.
  • Classes are offered based on enrollment. Once a class is full there will be a waitlist. It is encouraged that you register early to ensure your child’s placement in a class.
  • A background in the language is not necessary.
